Former South African Captain Faf Du Plessis has expressed that he is hoping to make an international comeback for South Africa at the upcoming T20 World Cup. Faf du Plessis is currently optimistic about his return after his previous talks with the current coach.

The former SA batter who is representing Samp Amry in the ongoing T10 league spoke on his international return during his interaction with the broadcasters. He said,

“I believe that I can return to international cricket as well. We have been speaking about this for the last couple of years. It’s just figuring out the balance of the T20 World Cup next year. It’s certainly something we have spoken about with the new coach. Watch this space,” said Faf du Plessis.

Faf, who announced a shocking retirement in Feb 2021, has stated previously that he is willing to take a U-turn from his retirement and play for SA at the T20 WC 2022 after a good IPL where he scored 468 runs and took his team to the playoffs. He couldn’t make the cut that time after a fall-off with the board. He had had a stellar 2023 amassing 730 runs in the IPL and has played some handy knocks in the Cpl.

Speaking on his fitness, the batter spoke about his work and said he does a lot of fast running in training which helps him maintain his shape.

“I do a lot of hard work to ensure I look after my body to be able to play this brilliant game we love so much. When you get a little bit older, you must make sure you do the work. Otherwise, the hamstring and other body parts do not work that well. There is a lot of fast running and a lot of stuff to make sure that level where you can play against the best players in the world,”  he stated.

With the WC being held in the Caribbean, Faf can be a great addition to the South African squad. The veteran batter who has played a couple of seasons in CPL can come in handy at the top and also with his leadership skills.

Playing in the T10 League

Speaking about the T10 league, the right-hand batter said that he now has a better understanding of the format, and he is more comfortable going for big hits from the first ball compared to his previous season.

“It is certainly easier the second time around. The first time I came, I was thinking that T20 and T10 are very similar, but it’s not. It’s very different. My first year was very much a learning opportunity. Now I am a little bit more comfortable slogging from the first ball,”said Faf du Plessis.

He concluded by saying that he finds the T10 league exciting and provides a good platform for the young talents to shine.

“I think the most exciting thing is that there are so many players that surprise you so much. When you play against someone you have not played across. The effectiveness can happen on any day no matter what the name is because the format is so short, you have to be on top of your end game to compete with the skillset there is,” he added.
