In the last ten years, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been the backbone of Team India’s batting line-up; no other batsman has impacted the cricketing world as much as both Indian batters. Together, Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma have won a truckload of matches for the team and have performed in crunch matches.

Even in the present, they are the most skilled and important batters in the Asia Cup 2023 and the upcoming World Cup 2023. On that note, Joe Root feels that writing off players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma because of their age is a dangerous thing.

Rohit Sharma in particular would be roaring to make an impact as a lot of questions were asked on his performance and captaincy after 2022 T20 WC debacle when the side was thrashed by England. Rohit Sharma will have to bat responsibly in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan (*ignored/dropped).

Both Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma will be leading India’s batting from the front in the upcoming World Cup in 2023. In the on-going Asia Cup 2023, they are both still the best batters for the men in blue. The modern master cracked his 77th international century against Pakistan, and Hitman also scored 194 runs at an average of 64, with three half centuries in the tournament so far. Their performance helped the men in blue book a seat in the finals of the Asia Cup 2023.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been stunning with their performances- Joe Root

Joe Root was having an interaction with the media and said that Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli could be lethal on the given day and gave example of Chris Gayle & James Anderson. Joe Root pointed out that senior players get a bit dangerous at the back end of their careers.

“I think it is very dangerous to just write off players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli because they are aging. Look at Chris Gayle, who played for a long time and, for example, played T20 cricket around the world,” said Joe Root.

Some of the best players on the globe have gone longer in their careers, especially in T20 cricket, and have been stunning with their performances. As long as you’re fit, you go on and play your game,” he stated.

“Jimmy Anderson is a perfect example to look at. He is in his 40s, but he is still performing exceptionally well in test cricket. We are very lucky that we have not lost out on that because we think he is getting too old. He is still playing and still leading our pace attack. And we’re using all his experience and skill to our advantage,” he added.

“Talking about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the more you watch them play, the more you admire their game and their class. Both players have achieved huge records in all forms of the game. Virat Kohli is probably the best batsman in the world right now; on the other hand, Rohit Sharma has been the greatest opener for a long period of time now,” he concluded.
