England skipper Jos Buttler is under the pump for his side’s poor performance in the ODI WC 2023. Jos Buttler-led side is almost out of the tournament as now they have to hope for a miracle and register thumping victories in the tournament to give themselves a chance to make it to the ODI WC 2023 semi-finals.

England’s next challenge is against India on 29th October at Lucknow and there are chances that the surface would be spin-friendly which would test England’s fragile batting lineup. All eyes would be on Jonny Bairstow who hasn’t been able to perform according to his credentials.

The spin duo of Moeen Ali & Adil Rashid have been at the receiving end in the tournament as their variations haven’t been that effective. England’s flamboyant all-rounder Ben Stokes needs to play a fearless brand of cricket rather than getting into a shell.

Jos Buttler has to open or not bat lower than four- Sir Geoffrey Boycott

In the column for the Telegraph, Sir Geoffrey Boycott was quite astounded that the skipper Jos Buttler wasn’t batting up the order given his track record in IPL and Indian conditions. Sir Geoffrey Boycott gave the example of the great Viv Richards and said that he was the best batsman in the world and batted early because he was a destructive force.

“Why would you have Jos Buttler batting at six, sitting in the pavilion watching guys who aren’t as good as him using up a lot of overs? Jos Buttler has to open or not bat lower than four. He opens for England in T20 and for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL T20,” said Sir Geoffrey Boycott.

“Jos Buttler has played in the IPL successfully for a few seasons so knows the grounds and pitches well yet England bat him down the order when there are just a few overs left or they are in big trouble,” he stated.

“When Viv Richards was the best batsman in the world he batted early because he was such a destructive force. It is what England should have done with Jos instead of wasting him down the order,” he added.
