ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: “Scoring A Hundred On Debut Is Always Massive”-Sourav Ganguly Lavishes Praise On Yashasvi Jaiswal

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India is fast approaching, and all 10 participating nations are steadfast in their preparations with players working hard to book a place in the final squads. Yashasvi Jaiswal,  the dashing left-handed batter has been making headlines. Yashasvi Jaiswal had a dream Test debut against West Indies and showed immense mental application.

Team India would be going into the ICC Cricket World Cup eager to end their trophy draught, with an added home advantage. Some sureshot names are expected to find a place in the Indian squad for the big event like captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shubman Gill. Indian team’s fortunes would revolve around how they stitch the rest of the squad around the nucleus.

The recent scintillating debut of Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first Test against the West Indies has led to experts demanding a place for him in the World Cup squad adding to the confusion of the selectors regarding the opening combination.

Sourav Ganguly was having an interaction with Telegraph and said he was impressed by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ability to score runs. Ganguly hinted to Rohit Sharma and Indian coach Rahul Dravid that a place for the youngster in the marquee tournament  “is a must” considering the variety he brings to the batting.

“Scoring a hundred on debut is always massive. I too have done it, so I know how special it is. Even technique-wise, he seems really good. A left-handed batsman’s presence in the team always helps. So, having him in the World Cup squad is a must,” said Sourav Ganguly.

Yashasvi Jaiswal an Asset

Yashasvi Jaiswal broke into the limelight once again with a memorable IPL where he racked up 625 runs in 14 matches at an average of 48,07 earned him a call-up to the Test side against West Indies. He scored a match-winning 171 on debut helping in India’s innings win. Jaiswal also broke Sourav Ganguly’s Asia record for most runs in his first Test appearance away from home.

However, contrary to all expectations, Jaiswal was not picked for the ODI series against West Indies and is being sent as a part of the Indian Team participating in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. This basically indicates that the youngster is not in contention for the  World Cup, as both events will be clashing. The youngster has time on his side, and provided with enough opportunities can make big in the coming years.
