India’s scintillating batter Virat Kohli will have a point to prove in the upcoming ODI WC 2023 staged in India. Virat Kohli doesn’t have a promising record in the crucial matches of ICC tournaments which is not a good sign for a champion player of Virat Kohli‘s caliber. It won’t be wrong to say that the side is way too much reliant on

Talks are going on that Virat would bat at the No.4 position and provide stability to the team in the middle-overs phase. It would be quite risky if the management tinker with the combination when there are only a handful of ODIs left before ODI WC 2023. Skipper Rohit Sharma perhaps should stick to one combination rather than frequently chopping & changing.

I probably didn’t understand the magnitude of winning the World Cup in 2011- Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli was seen in the promotional event and stated that winning the ODI WC 2011 was his highlight. Virat also spoke about the legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar. Virat pointed out the importance of the upcoming ODI WC 2023 and said that he understood the emotions of all senior players in 2011.

“My career highlight is winning the World Cup in 2011. I was 23 at the time, and I probably didn’t understand the magnitude of it. But now at 34, and having played many World Cups, which we haven’t been able to win, So, I understand the emotions of all the senior players (in 2011),” said Virat Kohli.

“All the more for Sachin Tendulkar, as it was his last World Cup. He had already played many World Cups by then and to win it in Mumbai, his hometown, was very special for him. I mean, it was stuff from dreams,” he added.

Crucial World Cup for Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli

Head coach Rahul Dravid would be wary of the fact that the senior batters Rohit Sharma & Virat need to step up in crucial matches rather than falling like a pack of cards in ICC knock-out matches. Skipper Rohit Sharma is quite vulnerable at the start of the innings, perhaps he needs to play a fearless brand of cricket rather than getting into a shell.

Once again the onus will be on the star batter Virat to make an impact in the middle overs phase. The batter currently is in the form of his life, but at the same time alone Virat can’t win the World Cup as winning the championship requires team effort which has been missing ever since the 2011 ODI WC & 2013 Champions Trophy and one bad day at the crunch matches spoils all the hard work.
