Australia’s shrewd left-arm off-spinner Ashton Agar had a topsy-turvy Indian tour in 2023. Ashton Agar didn’t feature in any of the BGT 2023 Test matches which was a huge blow for the management & Cricket Australia (CA). Ashton Agar was sent home and later played the decider 3rd ODI against India.

Australia would be hoping that Ashton can contribute with the bat as well. A handy knock of 30-odd runs at the back end of the innings can change the complexion of the match. Skipper Pat Cummins would be considering using Ashton as the floater and promote the batter ahead of Alex Carey.

World Cups bring out the best in one-day cricket- Ashton Agar

Ashton Agar was having an interaction with ESPNcricinfo and said that he loves playing in Indian conditions and was quite excited about the challenge. Ashton pointed out that a side can play 2 spinners in India. Ashton Agar stated that the BGT 2023 was quite tough for him but is quite optimistic about outclassing the opponent.

“World Cups bring out the best in one-day cricket, particularly in India. You never know what pitch you’re going to get. But the chances are as a spinner that you’ll be playing, and there’s a chance that you play two spinners in a lot of the games, particularly if the pitches get tired,” said Ashton Agar.

“It’s a place I love going. I’ve had really great experiences. Obviously, the Test tour was a difficult experience there. But then I got to go back and play that one-dayer and do really well. It’s a place I really like to bowl,” he added.

Great chance for Australia

Australia are all set to play a 3 ODI match series against India in India commencing from 22nd September. The ODI series would serve as an ideal preparation for the 5 time ODI World Cup winners. It would also test the captaincy of Pat Cummins who wasn’t a part of the triumph in 2023 series.

Last time, the mighty Aussies had won the ODI series in 2023 by 2-1 after losing the opening match. All eyes will be on David Warner, the destructive left handed batter batted in the middle order as Travis Head & Mitchell Marsh opened the innings.
