Mohammed Shami, the lethal speedster was in the beast mode against New Zealand. Mohammed Shami took a 5 wicket haul and was quite immaculate in his line & length. The pacer made the most of the opportunity as the management decided to give a break to Shardul Thakur in order to manage his workload.
Head coach Rahul Dravid would be delighted as Shami played the role of senior pacer quite perfectly and was constantly having interactions with fellow pacers. It won’t be wrong to say that Mohammed Shami slowed down things during the death overs phase as a target of around 300 was around the cards.
Mohammed Shami is a proven player- Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh was having an interaction with Star Sports. Harbhajan Singh stated that Mohammed Shami has proved his worth and is a hard working player. Harbhajan pointed out that the management should persist with Shami at No.8 position and make Hardik Pandya bat at No.6.
“He is a computer. He knows where to pitch the ball. He has done this job year after year. He is an extremely hard-working and proven player. I think about how can you keep him out,” said Harbhajan Singh.
“If you have to keep a guy for two overs and a little batting, I feel it is not the right team. The team that played today was right. When Hardik Pandya comes back, he will bat at No. 6 but Shami should be at No. 8,” he stated.
“When you need batting at No. 8 and a little bowling, you are forced to sacrifice Mohammed Shami. I feel he should play in every match. A good team is one where the batters take the responsibility of batting and the bowlers take the responsibility of bowling. It will be an odd day where you would need someone to bowl one or two overs,” he added.
