Bangladesh’s national cricket team are in disarray after losing the match against India. The side is badly missing the services of Tamim Iqbal who is injured and surprisingly wasn’t with the squad. Tamim Iqbal has been an integral part of the side over the last decade and more or so.

Bangladesh was without their skipper Shakib-Al-Hasan who wasn’t a part of the side against India. Shakib hasn’t been able to dictate the terms and most importantly, he hasn’t guided the bowlers in crunch moments of the match which has hurt the team. In his absence, Najmul Shanto led the side against India which was quite a one-sided affair.

More than a talent, you need a performer-  Mohammad Ashraful

Mohammad Ashraful was having an interaction with Hindustan Times. Ashraful pointed out that the Black Caps included Kane Williamson in the squad despite having a knee injury but BCB couldn’t handle the situation of the veteran batter Tamim Iqbal and said that earlier Bangladesh were contenders for the Semi Finals spot.

“Look at New Zealand. Williamson got injured at the IPL, but New Zealand still chose to take him to the World Cup. Bangladesh could have handled the Tamim situation differently. He’s someone who has played international cricket for 17 years. You can’t treat him like that. It’s not good,” said Mohammad Ashraful.

“Three months ago, things were looking good for Bangladesh in one-day cricket in particular. Suddenly, Tamim got injured and he left. We were genuinely hoping we could make the semis. But the performances haven’t been there at this World Cup,” he stated.

“When I started, we had just got Test status. The talent was fine back then. I was considered a talent. I made a century on Test debut. After 23 years (of getting Test status), we should have been much better. The talent is there. Tanzid (Hasan) looks talented. He has the shots. But more than talent, you need to be a performer,” he added.
