The ICC Cricket World Cup is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world of cricket, showcasing the best teams and players from around the globe. Every participating team aspires to lift the coveted trophy, but only one can emerge as the champion. Rohit Sharma‘s captaincy in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023 was top-notch. Rohit Sharma along with Virat Kohli will have to bat deep to get a mammoth score on the board.

While optimism and hope run high among fans and players alike, it’s essential to consider the reality of the competition. In this article, we’ll explore three reasons why India won’t win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

(1) Inconsistency in batting line up

One of the primary reasons why India may struggle to clinch the World Cup in 2023 is their inconsistent batting lineup. A strong and stable batting order is crucial in limited-overs cricket, where maintaining momentum and scoring big runs are vital. Unfortunately, India has been plagued by inconsistency in their batting department, with frequent collapses and struggles against quality bowling attacks.

In T20 and ODI cricket, the ability to adapt different conditions and oppositions is paramount. India has shown vulnerability in adapting to challenging conditions and playing against top-tier bowlers. Their over-dependence on a few key batsmen leaves them vulnerable to opposition strategies, making it difficult to consistently post competitive totals. To win the World Cup, India must address their batting inconsistencies and develop a more balanced and resilient lineup.

(2) Over- reliance on star duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

The Indian team is completely dependent on star batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, due to which, in the World Cup, where these batsmen will prove to be the spread for the Indian team, it may prove to be a challenging task for the young players to come forward and manage the team.

We have seen many such occasions where if the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli fall within the first 10 overs, then the leading batsmen do not show that confidence and then the entire team is unable to play even 50 overs. The biggest example of this is the recent matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, where the Indian batsmen could not bat even the entire 50 overs as soon as Virat and Rohit were out.

If the situation remains the same in the World Cup, then there may be many such matches where the Indian team may have to face difficulties in its strongest side and which may lead to the exit of the Indian team. Rohit Sharma will have to bat aggressively in the powerplay overs and get a big score on the board.

(3) Lack of off spin bowlers in team

This World Cup is going to be held in India where the pitches always prove to be helpful for spin bowlers. This is the reason why all the teams are including spin bowlers of almost 2 different variations in their teams for this World Cup so that they can take full advantage of the Indian pitches. If we look at the spin department, India has only one spin bowler who is included in this team, apart from that Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are bowling all rounders.

Right arm off break bowler always has an important role in spin bowling and there is no such bowler in the Indian team, recently Ravichandran Ashwin has also been included in the ODI series between India and Australia and so It is being said that he can also be seen for the World Cup. Ashwin played his last ODI in January 2022. Therefore, his inclusion in the World Cup team depends on his performance in this series.
