IPL 2024: “I Have No Regrets At All.”-Mitchell Starc On Missing 8 Consecutive IPL Seasons

In the recently completed IPL 2024 auction held at Dubai, Mitchell Starc sparkled up the auction table, winning an incredible INR 24.75 crore from the Kolkata Knight Riders.  KKR went all out to acquire the star bowler from Australia in a bidding war with Gujrat Titans. Mitchell Starc was the most expensive player in history after breaking Pat Cummins’ record of 20.50 crore in the same auction.

Mitchell Starc’s injuries kept him out of the Indian Premier League in 2016 and 2018. In 2017, he withdrew from the auction, and prior to the 2019 ODI World Cup, he decided not to take part. He chose not to enter the competition in the previous three years, according to Cricket Australia.

As he is set to play in the 2024 edition, Australia’s speed gun Mitchell said he doesn’t regret not appearing in the IPL for eight straight seasons. The left-handed speedster reasoned that his career has benefited from not participating in the prestigious league in a number of ways.

Mitchell Starc was seen Speaking on the Willow Talk podcast on YouTube with hosts Adam Peacock and Brad Haddin, he stated that he is pleased with how everything was gone and glad with how his career evolved.

“I made some choices, which I don’t regret at all. I think it’s probably helped my Test career, so I’m very happy with how it’s all gone. Very grateful to have some interest in the auction and excited, thrilled, surprised. There’s plenty of words you can describe the night,” he said (03:11).

In the lucrative competition, the New South Welshman previously played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (2014, 2015). In 27 IPL games, he has claimed 34 wickets overall at an average of slightly above 20.

Australia women’s team captain and Starc’s wife Alyssa Healy said at a press conference on Wednesday that Starc has been rewarded for his years of putting his country first. She further added that it was an amazing day for the Mitch and Pat Cummins.

“Look, it is what it is. It is an amazing moment for Mitch. It is a great justification for the hard work he has put in and (for) probably some of the choices he has made over the last eight years to put his country first. I was actually in the gym, working hard (and) watching it all unfold. It was an amazing day for him and Pat (Cummins).” she stated.

With the T20 World Cup 2024 is around the corner, IPL 2024 will be the ideal preparation for the Aussie speedster.
