Legendary cricketer and former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar stated that Sanju Samson‘s century against South Africa in the third One-Day International should be a turning moment in his career. According to Gavaskar, the keeper-batter Sanju Samson will begin to have more belief in himself.
Sanju Samson faced a lot of criticism for throwing away the opportunities after failing to score in the second ODI. But in the crucial third ODI, he responded exquisitely helping India to win the series. After the Proteas had sent Team India in to bat, Sanju Samson patiently scored a match defining 108 runs.
Samson had two important partnerships with KL Rahul of 52 and of 117 with Tilak Varma, respectively. In 50 overs, his century enabled the visitors to score the competitive total of 296-8 and bowl the Proteas out for 218 to seal the series by 2-1.

Sanju Samson will now have more possibilities, according to Gavaskar, who spoke with Star Sports. He also stated that this hundred will give him lot more self believe and going to be a key moment of his career.
“I think this hundred is going to change his career. One, he will get more opportunities because of this hundred. Secondly, I think he will also start to believe in himself more that he belongs to this level,” said Sunil Gavaskar.
“Sometimes you know you are there, but the luck is not with you and things like that. You get a tremendous delivery, great catches all these things can actually make you doubt whether you actually belong there,” he further added.

Gavaskar was impressed with the Sanju Samson’s shot selection in his innings. Gavaskar also noted that Samson chose the ideal balls to attack, increasing his chances of success, and that his shot selection was excellent.
“The standout for me from this innings was his shot selection. In the past, he has gotten out despite getting starts. Today, you couldn’t fault him at all. He was biding his time, waiting for the bad ball, and then getting a hundred,” he explained.
He went on to say that we all know Sanju has that talent and ability, but somehow he was not able to deliver it. This century will make him believe that he belongs here.
“This century will make him believe he belongs here. He has always belonged here, mind you. We all know the talent he has. But somehow he had not delivered, but, today, he delivered, not just for everybody but for himself as well,” he stated.
