In the years to come, Pat Cummins, in the opinion of former England captain Michael Vaughan, will be mentioned in the same breath as Australian greats such as Glenn McGrath and Dennis Lillee. Michael Vaughan lauded the Australian captain and said that he expects Pat Cummins Cummins to get better with age.

In the second innings at Melbourne, Cummins claimed his 250th Test wicket, ending Pakistan’s crucial partnership between Agha Salman and Mohammad Rizwan. After that, Australia rapidly thrashed the lower order and went on to win the Test by 79 runs.

2023 will be a year to be remembered by Pat Cummins- Michael Vaughan

For Cummins, 2023 was among the greatest years in history as a men’s cricket player. In his role as captain, he reclaimed the Ashes in England, won the World Test Championship (WTC) in England and the World Cup in India, and amassed the most Test wickets for a pacer.

He finished it off by defeating Pakistan in Melbourne in the Boxing Day Test, when he was named Player of the Match and given the Johnny Mullagh medal. With one game left, his 10/97 match figures helped Australia secure the three-match series.

“In years gone by, he’s certainly going to be talked of in the same breath as McGrath and Lillee. That [bowling] average is low now, but I think it will get better,” Michael Vaughan said on Fox Sports.

Pat Cummins will go down as one of the greatest of all time-Mark Waugh

Speaking on the same program, former Australian batter Mark Waugh called Pat Cummins “luckless” because of the early-career injuries he sustained, but he has only gotten better and is on the verge of becoming an all-time great.

“I reckon early in his career he was luckless. He didn’t get a lot of wickets in the first part of his career. He just bowled a fraction short, but he beat the bat a lot. It took him a while for him to get the big numbers up, but he hasn’t looked back the last couple of years. He’s going to be one of the all-time greats,” Waugh recalled.

The next Australia-Pakistan Test will be played from January 3-7 in Sydney.
