KL Rahul hit his lowest point earlier in the year and then made an incredible recovery. After suffering an injury of his quadriceps muscle during the 2023 Indian Premier League, KL Rahul had a difficult rehabilitation procedure that lasted till May, which caused him to miss a significant amount of cricket matches.

Rahul’s place in the team was already under a lot of strain because he was struggling in the IPL and had been left off of the Test team during the series against Australia. In the Asia Cup, KL Rahul made a stunning comeback with a century against Pakistan, and he hasn’t looked back.

“The crisis man,” as batting coach Vikram Rathour called him, showed up when the team needed him most in the opening World Cup match. India was struggling at two for three. At M Chidambaram Stadium, Rahul’s outstanding 97-run effort helped India to a memorable victory.

I don’t think it’s possible to make it in time for the World Cup-KL Rahul on making it to the World Cup Squad

KL Rahul revealed to Star Sports how challenging it was for him both physically and mentally to make sure he was ready for the 2023 World Cup. There was a lot of pressure on him to come back.

“During all of this time, I knew there was pressure to come back and all of that, but I had such a bad event that happened in my life that everything else seemed like, okay, it doesn’t, really matter. Everything else seemed smaller compared to, tearing your quadriceps and going through surgery,” said KL Rahul.

He further added that he was not able to walk for the first three or four weeks, and because of that, I don’t think that it will be possible to make it to the World Cup squad.

“I couldn’t walk for the first three or four weeks. I was on the walker and, then slowly started building myself up during all that time. I don’t think it’s possible to make it in time for the World Cup. That’s what the surgeon told us as well. He said it will take five months from the time of surgery,” he expressed.

KL Rahul was also aware that he would need to demonstrate his form and fitness prior to the major event in order to be included in India’s World Cup squad. He said he didn’t worry about the future; he just took things one day at a time.

“The surgery happened in May, so that meant I’d come back just in time for the World Cup, but also, I know how things work, right? You can’t just come straight back into the World Cup. The team wants you to play a few more games before that, just so that they get confidence, so that you get confidence. All of that time I was like, okay, I’m just going to take it as it comes. I can’t be stressed,” he stated.

Following a brilliant 2023 World Cup, KL Rahul led his side to an ODI series victory in South Africa and scored his eighth hundred in the first test match at Centurion when the Indian team found themselves in a struggling position.
