Imran Tahir, a former cricket player for South Africa, recently shared his thoughts on Yuzvendra Chahal‘s expulsion from the Indian T20I and ODI teams. Tahir claimed that Kuldeep Yadav’s comeback was the reason the leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal had been dropped, rather than any flaws in himself.

After missing the recently finished 2023 ODI World Cup, the 50-over series in South Africa, and the next three T20Is against Afghanistan, Tahir pushed Chahal to start again. Tahir took 293 wickets while playing for South Africa in 20 Tests, 107 ODIs, and 38 T20Is. In addition, he has participated in T20 leagues such as Major League Cricket, Bangladesh Premier League, Caribbean Premier League, Pakistan Super League, Big Bash League, and Indian Premier League.

“Kuldeep Yadav did well with Ravindra Jadeja and India found the right balance”- Imran Tahir on Yuzvendra Chahal’s exclusion from IND vs AFG T20Is

Regarding Chahal’s international future, PTI cited Imran Tahir as stating that Chahal is bowling well. He was not dropped because he didn’t do well; it’s just that Kuldeep Yadav went a step ahead.

“I don’t think Yuzvendra Chahal is not bowling well. For me, he is bowling good. Chahal was not dropped because he did not do well, got dropped as Kuldeep (Yadav) went a step ahead. He did well with (Ravindra) Jadeja and India found the right balance,” said Imran Tahir.

” Yuzvendra Chahal should start afresh because Kuldeep grabbed the opportunity with both hands and now Chahal should wait for his. He is a wonderful bowler and will surely come back,” he added.

Yuzvendra Chahal’s recent performance in  Vijay Hazare Trophy

Particularly, in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last year, Chahal performed admirably for Haryana. Haryana won the 50-over championship after the leg-spinner claimed 18 wickets at an economy rate of 3.70 in eight matches. Chahal did not play in the ODI series in South Africa, despite being named in the Indian squad.

Fascinatingly, with 96 wickets at an economy rate of 8.19 in 80 matches, Chahal is India’s top wicket in T20Is. But in as many T20ls last year, he only took nine wickets at an economy of 8.72.

Imran Tahir Is On the cusp of 500 T20 wickets

In the forthcoming second SA20 tournament, Imran Tahir, who led Guyana Amazon Warriors to the CPL 2023 championship, will play for the Johannesburg Super Kings.

At an economy rate of 6.95, the leg-spinner has already claimed 487 wickets in 391 outings and is almost poised to reach 500 in T20 cricket. So far in T20, only three bowlers have taken more than 500 wickets: Dwayne Bravo (619), Rashid Khan (556), and Sunil Narine (525).

On Wednesday, January 10, the Joburg Super Kings, led by Faf du Plessis, will take on the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the reigning champions, at St. George’s Oval.
