Brad Hogg, a former cricket player from Australia, criticized Ben Stokes, the captain of England, for his position on the “umpire’s call” rules under the Decision Review System (DRS) and urged him to “quit complaining about the DRS since it applies to both sides equally.”

Ben Stokes demanded that the “umpire’s call” rules in the Decision Review System (DRS) be removed following Zak Crawley’s dismissal during their 432-run loss to India in the third Test at Rajkot.

The technology indicated that the ball was not hitting the stumps, but the on-field decision held and the DRS declared it an “umpire’s call,” which puzzled Stokes. Zak Crawley was out for a leg before the wicket.

“It’s the same for both sides”- Brad Hogg on DRS

India and England are well into their five-game test series, with the home team ahead 2-1 at this point. England, captained by Ben Stokes, won the first Test with a bit of ease, but they were unable to repeat their performance in the subsequent two games. The third test of the series produced one of the most controversial moments in history.

Seizing the opportunity, Ben Stokes expressed his opinion that the umpire’s call needed to be overturned, but Brad Hogg, a former Australian cricket player, was not fond of the viewpoint. Hogg indicated that the umpire’s decision should stand, but the margin of error should be mitigated by the human factor.

Brad Hogg discussed the umpire’s call and Ben Stokes’ remarks regarding it in a video posted to his YouTube channel (4:42):

“For me, the more I think about it, the more I feel umpires call should be in there because the technology is slightly wrong. I understand it might have cost England at some important stage, but it could cost the opposition too. Stop whingeing about the DRS. It’s the same for both sides,”

Isan Bishop, a fellow expert, recently revealed former England captain Nasser Hussain’s previous remarks on Sky Sports regarding why the umpire’s call was required for DRS decisions.

“They don’t want to push Ben Stokes too hard”- Brad Hogg on Stokes’ bowling

Hogg also discussed Ben Stokes, the England Test captain, and his variety with the ball. Ahead of the fourth Test match between India and England, Hogg expressed his opinion that Stokes should not be forced to bowl against his home team, despite the captain rolling his arm in the nets.

Brad Hogg stated (6:02):

“Ben Stokes bowling is good for England, but they don’t want to push him too hard. If he injures his knee again and with the T20 World Cup coming up if he is not their premium all-rounder, it’s going to be costly. Good to see the coach and medical staff stepping in and taking control,”

Regarding whether or not Stokes will bowl in the Ranchi Test, head coach Brendon McCullum remained silent throughout the news conference. But it might provide them with excellent balance, particularly if the ball starts to reverse.
