The Indian former batter Gautam Gambhir feels that when it comes to ICC tournaments, Australia is always a strong team, and if you want to win the tournament, you have to beat them.
Team Australia has been the most consistent team in the big tournaments; they have ruled in ICC tournaments and have five World Cup trophies under their belt. Notably, the 2011 World Cup-winning player throws praise at the Aussies.

Gautam Gambhir was having an interaction with Star Sports. Gautam Gambhir wants the ranking system should be removed as it doesn’t matter in the big tournament. Gautam Gambhir pointed out that beating Australia would keep India in a good stead.
“Look, I have always said this, and there is no doubt: if any team wants to win the World Cup, then you have to take down Australia. In 2007, when we won the World Cup, we defeated Australia in the semifinals. In 2011, when we won the World Cup, we beat Australia in the quarterfinal. Australia is the strongest team in any ICC tournament, for sure.”
“Remove ranking; ranking does not matter in big tournaments. You can be in any position in the rankings, but with Australia, when it comes to big tournaments, the World Cups, I think Australia has the players, they have the self-belief, and Australia has the ability to win those big moments really well, ” he expressed.
“In the World Cups that India won, we had to beat them in the knockout stage twice. And in the World Cups that we have lost, in 2015 we lost to Australia. So, I believe that if we have to win the World Cup 2023, the match with Australia is going to be the most important game, and we start against Australia, so there is nothing better than that,” he added.
