India’s swashbuckling right-handed batter Suryakumar Yadav is unable to dictate the terms in the ODI format. Sanjay Manjrekar suggested that the batter needs to tweak his technique and wait for loose deliveries before going all-out attack. Sanjay Manjrekar was quite optimistic that Suryakumar Yadav would convert his T20I form into ODI format.

It won’t be wrong to say that the Men in Blue are the red-hot favorite for Asia Cup 2023 as they have a destructive middle order present in the form of Shreyas Iyer & KL Rahul. It would be interesting to see at what position Suryakumar Yadav as the batter can play the role of pinch hitter for the side. We should not forget that the inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah solves the conundrum of death bowling for skipper Rohit Sharma

ODI cricket is not a game of fours and sixes- Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar was having an interaction with Star Sports and backed the out-of-form batter Suryakumar Yadav to come good in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that Suryakumar Yadav has got the game and stated that it’s just a matter of confidence for the batter.

“Suryakumar Yadav bagged three successive golden ducks against Australia. If he gets a chance now and if a few wickets have fallen early, he should focus on defense. You need your defense at times in 50-over cricket,”  said Sanjay Manjrekar.

“You need singles and doubles, it is not a game of fours and sixes. I think he can manage that. The other thing, even in T20 cricket, he hits a lot of fours. He is somebody who likes to hit along the ground. He has the game, it is just a matter of confidence,” he added.

Suryakumar Yadav a complete package

Suryakumar Yadav is a force to reckon with in the T20I format and has got all the shots in the book. Suryakumar Yadav perhaps as mentioned by Sanjay Manjrekar needs to get his eye in before going berserk. Suryakumar needs to play the waiting game which may be tough for a batter of his caliber but that’s what ODI cricket is all about which tests the endurance of a batter.

Head coach Rahul Dravid & skipper Rohit Sharma have shown faith in Suryakumar Yadav. It won’t be wrong to say that Sanju Samson has been completely ignored despite having a stellar average with a healthy strike rate. It may be a bit too late for the experiment as the management should stick with a combination rather than making wholesale changes for every contest.
