Indian cricket team would be eyeing to start afresh in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The spectacular batter Shubman Gill is under the scanner for his poor outing in the Caribbean tour. Shubman Gill along with Rohit Sharma will have to be watchful in the powerplay overs.
India needs to give a long rope to Shreyas Iyer at the No. 4 position and should stick to one combination rather than trying different batters. Hardik Pandya may be promoted up the order as KL Rahul is unavailable & not fit for the first 2 games. Hardik can provide the impetus in the middle-overs phase.
Shubman Gill loves pace & bounce- Mohammad Kaif
Mohammad Kaif was having an interaction with Star Sports and was a bit concerned over the form of the dashing right-handed batter Shubman Gill who couldn’t assert his dominance over the opposition in the recently concluded Caribbean tour. Shubman Gill looked scratchy and perhaps he was trying a bit too hard which hurt his performance.
“Shubman Gill’s form has slightly dropped. He didn’t fare well on the West Indies tour, but I think the Kandy pitch will suit him. He loves pace and bounce. The ball will move, so the challenge will always be there for the top 3,” said Mohammad Kaif.
Shubman Gill a key batter for side
Shubman Gill needs to play his natural attacking brand of cricket rather than getting into the shell. We witnessed how Shubman dictated the terms in India’s home season against the likes of Sri Lanka & New Zealand as the batter is tipped to be the next big thing in world cricket. Shubman Gill has got a wide range of shots and is quite unstoppable when he gets into the zone.
There have been talks going on that Ishan Kishan may bat in the middle order and play a significant knock for the team. Ishan Kishan has got similar traits like the destructive wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant (*injured). India though will have to figure out their death bowlers if the side wants to outclass the opposition.
