The Former England Captain, Michael Vaughan opines that England needs to surpass 250 or more, to set a dominating target for the Aussies, in this way England will place themselves in a better position to win the first Test of Ashes 2023 at Edgbaston. Michael Vaughan pointed out that chasing would be tough for the Aussies.

The hosts managed to get a seven lead on the board, it’s certainly not much but definitely gives them a psychological advantage. However, Michael Vaughan believes that as the pitch is slowing down, it will benefit the veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon and he can prove to be impactful against the Bazball approach from England.

“I’d Rather Be In England’s Position..” – Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan believes that he rather be in England’s position as the dominating opening session by England proved to be fruitful. However Michael Vaughan is still wavering about Lyon, as he is a world-class performer, and England needs to play carefully against him. He stated while talking to BBC Sports:

“I’d rather be in England’s position. This Bazball approach against a world-class performer in Nathan Lyon. There has also been a little bit more for the seamers. The key is how England plays Lyon. If they get over 250 it will be a hard chase for Australia.” Vaughan stated.

“Broad, Anderson and Robinson have brought England back into the contest. There was a stage earlier this morning where Australia were well on their way to a 50-60 run lead.” he added.

However the tail could not add much as they were bundled out in hurry by the England bowlers, just 7 runs short of the lead. The England batters came out with a positive mindset but rain halted the play and aftermath things didn’t went according to England as they lost both their openers Zak Crawley on 7 by in form bowler Scott Boland and Ben Duckett by the skipper Pat Cummins.
