Ashes 2023: “I Think 270, England Would Snap Your Hand Off For It..”- Alastair Cook

The Former England Opener Alastair Cook, believes that if England surpasses 300 or 320 they will place themselves in a better position. Alastair Cook believes a target around 300-run could make Ben Stokes and Co. favorites. England is advancing ahead of Australia by 35 lead run-scorer, however, they have lost both their openers, and it will be a tricky situation for England going on day 4.

England is in a precarious position at 28/2 at Stump’s on Day 3 and will have to deliver a powerful batting performance on Monday to turn the game around. Many Cricket experts believe that 300 or more scores will be enough for England to put Australia under pressure, and win the first Test of Ashes 2023.

Cook opines, that England needs to display a relentless batting effort, to win the first test of Ashes 2023. He Stated while talking to BBC Sports:

“I think 270, England would snap your hand off for it. I think that gives you a really good chance. If you could push to 300, 320 for a fourth innings on a wearing wicket, it would make England very favorable.” said Ben Stokes.

Highlights On Day 3

Day 3 belongs to Australia as they came out formidable, Usman Khawaja and Alex Carrey’s contributions facilitated Australia to surpass 300 score. Their long-stand partnership added 118 runs on 6th wicket, Khawaja smacked a mammoth sore of 141 until he was dismissed by Ollie Robinson, who bowls a pin-point yorker to get rid of the In-Form Batter. Carrey departed in the fifth over of the day 3 on the  wonderful delivery by James Anderson. Carey unleashed a breathtaking innings of 66.

However the tail could not add much as they were bundled out in hurry by the England bowlers, just 7 runs short of the lead. The England batters came out with a positive mindset but rain halted the play and aftermath things didn’t went according to England as they lost both their openers Zak Crawley on 7 by in form bowler Scott Boland and Ben Duckett by the skipper Pat Cummins. England will now go on Day 4 with a lead of 35 runs.
