After a string of low scores in the ongoing Ashes series, David Warner has come under the spotlight for his form. David Warner‘s struggle in facing Stuart Broad has sparked a conversation if head coach Andrew McDonald and skipper Pat Cummins would give him another chance. The southpaw had no answer to the precision of the seasoned pacer Stuart Broad, who dismissed Warner for the 17th time in Test cricket.

Australia will be looking to seal the series as the visitors have a 2-1 lead. Legendary skipper Ricky Ponting has sparked a conversation on David Warner’s place in the team as the left-handed batter has looked in all sorts of trouble.

“I know there’s been a lot of chat the last couple of days since the end of Headingley” – Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting was speaking at ICC Review and opined that it was a worrisome situation as David Warner has been struggling to get through the opening overs putting pressure on the other batters. He also pointed out that the English team could use the psychological dominance of Broad over David Warner to their advantage.

And the reason I say that is because I’ve played against teams in the past and bowlers in the past where you just know that they’ve got the wood on you and they’re on top of you and you just can’t get away from it,” said Ricky Ponting.

“When someone’s got you out 17 times, it does become as much a mental or probably more of a mental battle than it does a technical battle,” he added.

I honestly do feel a big score is just around the corner for David Warner – Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting expects David Warner to get his act together and get back into form. However, Ponting suggested having faith in Warner considering his abilities and experience, and went on to talk about the perils of bringing in a new player at such a stage. He said that keeping the series in mind, it would be ideal to stick with Warner as his possible replacements in Marcus Harris and Matt Renshaw are inexperienced and have not played first-class cricket in a long-time.

“I’d like to see him get back to that and if he gets back to that, I think with the way that I’ve seen him start in a couple of his innings, I honestly do feel a big score is just around the corner for him,” said Ricky Ponting.
