Former Indian opener and reputed commentator, Aakash Chopra, shared his thoughts on how India can take advantage of South Africa’s weak batting lineup if they can get rid of Dean Elgar quickly ahead of the second test match between India and South Africa.

In the first Test in Centurion, Elgar scored an elegant 185 runs as the Proteas thrashed the visitors by an innings and 32 runs. With the second and final Test set to begin in Cape Town on Wednesday, January 3, Rohit Sharma and his team will be hoping to do better to avoid whitewash.

Aakash Chopra adds that Lungi Ngidi hasn’t participated in a first-class match in over a year and is unsure if he would replace the injured Gerald Coetzee in South Africa’s starting XI. If Ngidi is sidelined, he expects Keshav Maharaj to be in the starting lineup.

If You Remove Dean Elgar, It Seems Like The Batting Is Extremely Ordinary- Aakash Chopra On The Price Wicket Of Dean Elgar

India can expose South Africa’s ‘weak’ and inexperienced batting if they soon get rid of Elgar, according to Aakash Chopra’s opinion in a video posted on his YouTube channel. As Dean Elgar is captaining in his career’s last test match, he will be looking to end it with a fairy tale ending.

“South Africa’s news is that Temba Bavuma is not there. This is Dean Elgar’s last Test match and he is going to play as a captain, which is poetic justice. He also said that forget about the runs, his eyes are on the trophy. So he will be absolutely pumped up,” said Aakash Chopra.

Former Indian opener said that South Africa’s batting line-up is extremely weak if you got the wicket of Dean Elgar early.

“I still feel the South African batting is weak. If you remove Dean Elgar, it seems like the batting is extremely ordinary, but removing Dean Elgar is extremely difficult. He doesn’t get removed that easily,” he stated.

If India have to do well, they need to bat well- Aakash Chopra On India’s Key To Success In The Second Test Match

India’s batting, in Aakash Chopra’s opinion, will be crucial to their success in the second Test. He said that they have to bat for five sessions to get success in the second test match.

“I still feel if India have to do well, they need to bat well. They will have to play five sessions. The truth is that South Africa batted slightly more in one inning than India batted totally in two innings,” said Aakash Chopra.

The reputable commentator noted that India’s batting failed in both innings, even if he acknowledged that the bowling was also lacking in the first game of the series.

“There were two reasons for that. Firstly, India didn’t bowl that well. Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur were expensive and (Mohammed) Siraj also found his rhythm only in parts, but they didn’t bat well. That’s why you were dismissed quickly in both innings,” he explained.

In conclusion, Chopra stated that the responsibility should fall on India’s batting. He went on to say that if batters scored good amount of runs on the board then bowlers will perform well.

  1. I liked it as much as you did. Even though the picture and writing are good, you’re looking forward to what comes next. If you defend this walk, it will be pretty much the same every time.

  2. I had a great time with that, too. Despite the high quality of the visuals and the prose, you find yourself eagerly anticipating what happens next. If you decide to defend this walk, it will basically be the same every time.
