“You can’t guarantee a performance, but at least you can guarantee a mindset and approach,” said Aavishkar Salvi regarding SRH batter Abhishek Sharma. However, tonight, the young player proved that he could guarantee both. He batted his way to the Player of the Match award for his outstanding innings of 37 runs off just 12 balls in Hyderabad’s six-wicket win against CSK.

Chasing a modest target of 166 runs, SRH had a blazing start, largely thanks to the 23-year-old opener, Abhishek. The aggressive batter took on the CSK bowlers with ease, hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes in his brief but impactful innings of 37 runs off just 12 balls before being dismissed. After Abhishek’s explosive start, SRH’s batting lineup, led by Travis Head and Aiden Markram, continued to dominate the CSK bowlers. Despite a brief slowdown in the middle, hard-hitting batsmen Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy ensured a comfortable victory for SRH with 6 wickets in hand.

I went with the flow today- Abhishek Sharma

When discussing his team’s performance, Abhishek credited their dedication and commitment to sticking to their game plan, which involved attacking during the powerplay overs. He emphasized their ability to capitalize on this strategy to great effect.

In the bowling, we felt it’s a bit slow wicket. We knew if we take the powerplay on, we can go with the flow after that. We had a chance to prepare well before this IPL,” said Abhishek in the post-match interview.

Abhishek Sharma, a lifelong fan of Yuvraj Singh, paid tribute to his idol and acknowledged the role that former SRH coach and West Indies legend Brian Lara played in shaping his cricketing skills and character.

Big scores do matter (individual scores), but I went with the flow today. Special thanks to Yuvi paaji, Brian Lara and my dad for this,” stated Abhishek.

Abhishek Sharma had the privilege of undergoing extensive training sessions with Yuvraj during the off-season, and it’s evident that he has greatly benefited from this opportunity, as reflected in his recent form. With his explosive innings of 37 runs today, Abhishek has climbed into the top 5 batters vying for this year’s Orange Cap. He has amassed a total of 161 runs in just 4 innings, showcasing his potential as a formidable batsman in the tournament.
