Bangladesh’s skipper and all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, feels they have been struggling in the tournament. Shakib al Hasan led side lost their last match against the Netherlands by a huge margin of 87 runs while chasing an easy score of 230.
It was a setback for a fighting team like Bangladesh, but they just could not get past the Dutch bowlers. They bowled well against the Orange Army, but their batting let them down. On the note, skipper Shakib Al Hassan talked about their bad form in the ICC World Cup 2023.
In the 28th match of the ICC World Cup 2023, Bangladesh clashed with the Netherlands in Kolkata. The Netherlands batted first, but their openers went early into the dressing room without making any mark. A steady partnership between skipper Scott Edwards and Wesley Barresi pulled things back on track.
Sybrand Engelbrecht’s small knock at the end helped the team reach a fighting total of 229. Bangladeshi bowlers bowled really well; every bowler contributed to restricting the opposition to such a small total.
While chasing very low-scoring men in green, they also repeated the same as Dutch openers. Mehidy Hasan played beautifully for his 35 in just 40 runs, but no other batter could stand with him. Their experienced batters, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, also could not do anything for their team.
Suddenly, the small target was looking very big to chase, and at the end, Netherland won the match by 87 runs.
In the post-match presentation, Shakib Al Hasan feels they have done poorly in this tournament with the bat.
“I thought we bowled really well. We should have restricted them to 170. We have been very poor with the bat throughout the ICC World Cup 2023. This is as bad as it gets. It is very difficult from here for us now,” said Shakib-al-Hasan.
“We need to take this on our chin. Throughout this tournament, we have been struggling. I am not sure what is going on in our minds. Very unlike the real Bangladesh team. The fans have been supporting us,” he added.
