ICC T20 World Cup 2024 : “Afghanistan Fought Their Hearts Out”, Imran Khan On Afghanistan’s Dream Run

Imran Khan, the renowned captain of Pakistan, has complimented the Afghanistan cricket team for their great performance in the T20 World Cup 2024. Notably, in the current tournament, the Rashid Khan-led team advanced to the semi-finals of an ICC event for the first time.

They were unable to advance further in the match, though, as South Africa crushed them by nine wickets to put an end to their incredible season. On the other hand, Imran Khan complimented Afghanistan and the cricket community as a whole commended them for their outstanding performance.

The captain of the World Cup-winning squad in 1992 praised the team’s passion as they battled their way to the semifinals. Khan added that they will be even more motivated to win more medals for their nation by their performance.

Afghanistan Created History By Reaching Semi-Finals

Seeing Afghanistan’s performances in the world cup, the former Pakistan captain had to mention them on his X account. He said :

“I would like to congratulate the Afghan National team on their brilliant performance in the ongoing Twenty20 Cricket World Cup. The spirit with which they fought their way to the semi finals is indeed praiseworthy, which also speaks of their positive attitude and total commitment to the cause of the game. They fought their hearts out and were unlucky not to go through to the finals. I am sure this performance will prove to be a precursor to many laurels they would bring to their country. I wish them all the best for the future,” Imran Khan on his X account.

Afghanistan defeated Uganda by a commanding 125 runs to begin their campaign. But in the second match, they crushed New Zealand by 84 runs and put them in danger of losing. That was their major victory. Afghanistan won three of four games to finish second in Group C, further defeating Papua New Guinea.

Afghanistan lost to India by 47 runs to begin their Super 8 campaign, but they turned things around by shocking Australia by 21 runs. In their final Super 8 match, they defeated Bangladesh by eight wickets to guarantee their place in the semi-final, where South Africa defeated them. In the semifinal, South Africa defeated Afghanistan by nine wickets to advance to their first-ever World Cup final, despite Afghanistan being bowled out for just 56.
