Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka feels they missed their bowlers and missed the lengths, and they also could not execute the good bowling areas against South Africa. Dasun Shanaka was utterly disappointed with the team’s performance and said that the defeat was really a confidence-breaking loss in the very first match. On the note, Dasun Shanaka expressed how their bowlers could not hit the right areas and could not execute bowling plans, which resulted in a huge target of 429.

South Africa came to bat first, starting with the early wicket of their skipper Temba Bavuma, which turned into a joyful moment later for Sri Lanka. A huge partnership developed between de Kock and van der Dussen; both players bagged stunning centuries, and the attacking left-hander was then caught by Dhananjaya de Silva in the 31st over.

Aiden Markram came to the crease and carried the same tempo as de Kock, and he also scored a quick century in just 54 balls. At the end of the inning, small hands from other batters helped the team post the biggest total ever in the history of the World Cup.

Sri Lanka did not start well in their inning while chasing a huge target. Their wickets kept falling at intervals; they could not build a partnership. Later, some sparks were shown from the middle-order batters of Sri Lanka, but they could not get past such a mammoth total and lost the match by a huge margin.

I expected a high scoring match- Dasun Shanaka

In the post-match presentation, he expressed concern about their wrong execution. He also expressed how the absence of their main bowlers affected them. Dasun Shanaka pointed out that the side is missing main bowlers but said that it is part of the game.

“I expected a high-scoring match today with the kind of batting lineup South Africa has. We missed your lengths, and the execution wasn’t there. We should have kept them to somewhere around 370, and that would have been a chaseable total on this ground, “said Dasun Shanaka.

“We had some amazing batters who were striking it really well, but there was too much to do. Missing our main bowlers is a huge issue, but that is part of the game; we have to move on, and it is an opportunity for others. We need to get our execution right in the other games,” he added.
