In a surprising revelation, it has come to light that Prabhas, the celebrated pan-India actor, initially hesitated to take on the role of Lord Ram in Adipurush. Although the film, directed by Om Raut, was released on June 16 and has been performing well at the box office, Prabhas’ reluctance to play the role adds an intriguing layer to the narrative.

Om Raut’s Convincing Tactics

During a recent conversation with India Today, Om Raut shed light on the challenges he faced while convincing Prabhas to portray Lord Ram. He recalled their conversation during the pandemic, where he had to overcome numerous obstacles to convey his vision for the character. Raut revealed that he engaged in a phone conversation with Prabhas, discussing the role he had in mind. The exchange went as follows:

  • Prabhas: “What is it that you want me to play?”
  • Om Raut: “I want you to play Prabhu Shri Ram, the character of Raghav.”
  • Prabhas: “Are you sure?”
  • Om Raut: “Yes, absolutely.”

Prabhas expressed concerns about the feasibility of narrating such an intricate film through a Zoom call, especially considering his stature as a prominent star. Sensing Prabhas’ reservations, Om Raut arranged for a pilot to fly from Mumbai to Hyderabad on the very same day. This pilot carried the script, enabling Raut to personally narrate the film to Prabhas.

The Turning Point

Om Raut journeyed to Hyderabad, armed with the script and his unwavering conviction. Upon hearing the narration, Prabhas became immensely excited and wholeheartedly accepted the role of Lord Ram. Raut commended Prabhas for his continuous support and unwavering belief in his vision, expressing gratitude for their collaboration. He also expressed optimism, stating that Prabhas would continue to stand by him in the future.

Adipurush and the Backlash

Adipurush, despite its success at the box office, has faced significant criticism from the audience. One particular aspect that drew backlash was the presence of cringe-worthy dialogues in the film. Responding to public sentiment, the film’s creators have decided to revise these dialogues to ensure they no longer hurt the audience’s feelings.

Furthermore, some viewers expressed disappointment, claiming that Adipurush deviates substantially from the essence of the original Ramayana. They felt that the movie failed to capture the true spirit of the epic, leaving them unsatisfied.

Apart from Prabhas’ portrayal of Lord Ram, Adipurush boasts an ensemble cast, featuring talented actors in key roles. Kriti Sanon shines as Janaki (Sita), while Devdatta Nage brings Hanuman to life with his performance. Saif Ali Khan portrays the formidable Lankesh (Ravana), adding depth to the narrative.

The film, which has a budget of Rs. 500 crores, is a pan-Indian film that has captured the attention of cinephiles across the nation. The project is co-produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Om Raut, Prasad Sutar, and Rajesh Nair, who have put in every effort to create an eye-catching and engaging film experience.
