Pat Cummins & Co. faced Kolkata Knight Riders in the first qualifier of the Indian Premier League playoffs at The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 21st May 2024. Sunrisers have been very flamboyant in their batting this season and have posted very huge totals for their opponents.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have been influential for Sunrisers at the top of the order. Their aggressive start has helped other batsmen to come and hit from ball one and play fearless cricket in all 20 overs of their innings.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, has urged his squad to forget about their heartbreaking loss to the Kolkata Knight Riders and concentrate on the impending IPL Qualifier. In Tuesday’s Qualifier 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Sunrisers Hyderabad was soundly defeated by KKR by eight wickets.

Pat Cummins After Loss Against Kolkata Knight Riders

“Yeah we will try to put this behind quickly, good thing we will have a crack at it (second qualifier). You have those days in T20 cricket where things doesn’t quite work out. We weren’t where we wanted with the bat and obviously couldn’t do much with the ball,” Pat Cummins said at the post match presentation.

“Felt that extra batting was important (picking the impact sub) on this wicket. Though KKR bowled really well, there was a little bit in it early on and the surface got better. We all have played enough cricket, and going to a new venue (Chennai) helps us as well, so we gotta keep this behind and move on,” he said.

With three vital wickets to upset SRH, who could only generate a meager total of 159 runs before being bowled out with three balls left in their innings, Mitchell Starc led an excellent bowling effort.

Despite the loss, Pat Cummins’ team will get another chance to go to the championship game when they host the winner of Friday’s Eliminator between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Chennai. Thanks to undefeated half-centuries from Venkatesh Iyer (51) and captain Shreyas Iyer (58), KKR easily won with 6.2 overs remaining.
