SunRisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins has acknowledged that the extensive travel involved in an IPL season is more exhausting than the tournament itself. Despite this, the 30-year-old Pat Cummins emphasized that they have been accustomed to this routine over the years and are prepared for their upcoming fixture on Saturday.

The Australian cricketer is set to represent his third IPL team as the SunRisers face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their opening match of the IPL 2024 season on Saturday at Eden Gardens. The right-arm fast bowler has participated in 42 matches, capturing 45 wickets with an average of 30.16 and an economy rate of 8.54.

Four overs isn’t as taxing on your body- Pat Cummins

On Friday, ahead of their first game of the tournament, the 30-year-old shared that bowling four overs in a match is not as draining as the travel between games. He explained further,

“It’s a format I’ve never captained before. Tomorrow (Saturday) is going to be my first game. With a bit of preparation, I’m good to go. It’s got its challenges. You play 14 games in six-seven weeks, plus finals. I’m used to playing a lot of Test cricket, so four overs isn’t as taxing on your body. But it can be mentally taxing to travel, you’re playing a new team every few days you’ve got to prepare for,”

“But it’s nothing new, we’ve done it before, so obviously the game days are the most important, that’s where we put most of our energies into. No team plays the same XI all 14 games,”

The SunRisers have high hopes for Pat Cummins, who was acquired for INR 20.25 crore. As the New South Wales cricketer steps in to replace Aiden Markram as captain after having an outstanding year, the Orange Army is looking forward to a turn in their fortunes.

We have got loads of experienced guys- SRH Skipper Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins voiced his confidence in the team’s experienced roster and expressed eagerness to impart his knowledge to the younger players. He stated,

“We have got loads of experienced guys excited with the lineup. Bhuvi I will be leaning on a lot. We have got a lot of experience and young guys as well. It’s T20 cricket, you will be hit around, not worry about too much. So it will be up for the experienced guys to help the youngsters out,”

The SunRisers Hyderabad clinched their first IPL title in the year 2016.
