Under the lights at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, the Delhi Capitals (DC) achieved a historic feat, becoming the first team to successfully chase a target of over 160 against the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Led by Rishabh Pant, DC secured a remarkable 6-wicket victory, marking their second win of the season and propelling them to the 9th position on the points table.

DC demonstrated the winning formula against LSG in their home ground. The pitch slowed down, offering little to the pace bowlers, a challenge DC adeptly navigated. Chasing 168, debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk and Pant orchestrated a crucial 77-run partnership, steering the game away from the hosts. Fraser-McGurk made a bold statement with a blistering half-century on his IPL debut, while spinner Kuldeep Yadav shone with the ball, taking 3 wickets upon his return.

If Ravi Bishnoi had not dropped Jake Fraser-McGurk in the 8th over off Marcus Stoinis’ bowling, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) might have maintained their winning streak in the tournament. However, the Australian batter capitalized on the second chance he received and turned the game in favor of Delhi Capitals (DC). Lucknow captain KL Rahul emphasized the significance of that drop, praising the DC debutant for his fearless approach.

He (Jake Fraser-McGurk) hit the ball well, credit to him. We always walk in with the same mindset and want to hit the right areas. We got Warner in the powerplay and got a couple of wickets after the powerplay. The set batters – Pant and McGurk took the game away from us after that dropped catch,” KL Rahul said in the post-match interview.

The LSG captain also commended Kuldeep Yadav, who took three wickets, including the crucial dismissal of Nicholas Pooran. The DC leg-spinner completely outfoxed the in-form Pooran, who appeared bewildered as the ball crashed into the off stump.

In hindsight, you can always wonder if you could have done something different. There wasn’t much spin after Axar’s over, so I thought Pooran could have put some pressure on the opposition if he was set. He would have been dangerous, but credit to Kuldeep for getting him out,” Rahul added.

We need to protect his body, he’s itching to go- KL Rahul on Mayank Yadav

Mayank Yadav, a young pace sensation, was benched on Friday due to a hip injury he suffered in Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) previous encounter against Gujarat Titans. LSG captain KL Rahul mentioned that the Delhi pacer is doing fine, but the team management is cautious and will not rush his return at this stage.

He (Mayank Yadav) is feeling good, he looks good, but we don’t want to rush him. We need to protect his body, he’s itching to go. Need to make sure that he’s hundred percent (fit) before he comes back,” Rahul concluded.
