Joe Root, the star batsman for England, stated that he will continue to play the reverse scoop even though the opinion is polarizing. The home summers of 2022 and 2023 saw the Yorkshire batter Joe Root utilize the reverse ramp to great advantage. But against Jasprit Bumrah in the third Test match against India in Rajkot, it backfired, leading to his dismissal at a critical moment. Root faced criticism after England gave up a 126-run lead.

Joe Root’s tour of India was forgettable until the fourth Test in Ranchi. On the first day, he saved visitors from a dangerous scenario by hitting an undefeated 122 as the right-hander restrained his aggressive approach. England perhaps will have to reconsider their ultra-attacking approach ‘Bazball’ as the track at Dharamsala promises to be an even surface.

No one knows my game as well as I do – Joe Root

Joe Root admitted to Sky Sports that he  knows his game the best and that he may occasionally make a mistake with the reverse scoop:

“People will have their own opinions on how I’ve got out through this series and what is best for me. I will continue playing the way I think is best for any given situation. No one knows my game as well as I do. The reason I’ve got to where I’ve got to is because I’ve always looked to keep trying to get better, improve and evolve,”

“That’s got to keep happening. If you stand still in this game, with the amount of information and analysis out there, you’ll get found out. I’m not always going to get it right. I’m going to make the odd mistake,” Root added.

I felt like I’d not contributed how I’d expect- Joe Root

Root continued by expressing his disappointment at not being able to contribute as much as he would have liked to over the first three Tests. The former skipper believed that someone needed to settle in for the match after scoring a century in Ranchi.

“I have high expectations of myself, and until that last Test match, I was way below where I want to be. I felt short of runs, I felt like I’d not contributed how I’d expect myself to and how I wanted to coming into the tour,” Root said.

“It’s a part of the world I love batting in, and I’ve had previous success here. I tried to just play the game in front of me. I looked at that situation and those conditions there (in Ranchi), and it didn’t need anything flamboyant. It needed someone to be a constant throughout and try to keep a calm feel to things,” Root added.

India leads England 3-1 in the five-match series; the fifth game is scheduled to begin on March 7 in Dharamsala.
