During the Legends Intercontinental T20 League’s opening ceremony, former England spinner Graeme Swann praised James Anderson, calling him the best bowler the country has ever produced. Swann said he thought James Anderson was the best bowler in English cricket history, better than both pacers and spinners, given his present form and career accomplishments.

Rob Key, the managing director of the England men’s teams, spoke with James Anderson recently about the induction of new pacers into the national team. Also present were Test head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes. James Anderson, both as a pacer and a spinner, will end his career as the greatest English bowler ever, according to former England spinner Graeme Swann. In addition to Test captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum, Rob Key, the general director of the England men’s teams, sat Anderson down last month and said that the squad was considering adding young pacers.

Swann On James Anderson

“It has been a long time coming, isn’t it? He was supposed to retire about five years ago. I don’t know how he has managed to do this. He is like a wind-up toy, just keeps running round and round about the table. Jimmy is brilliant, he is the best bowler we have ever produced, spin or seam,” Swann told reporters.

“In fact, the older he has got, the fitter he has got and the more dedicated he has become. I think he is incredible, having taken so many wickets. England are one of the few countries where you can play that much Test cricket and keep going for that long,” Swann added.

The former England spinner also said that the England Cricket Board should immediately look to bring him in as a fast-bowling coach.

“He is just dedicated to his craft. I wish him all the best and I hope that England bring in him as a coach immediately, especially for the fast bowlers. The best time for players to be inducted as coach is when they have just finished their professional careers,” Swann said
