Sarfaraz Khan thought back to his grief run-out on the first day of the India vs. England Third Test, which was brought on by a mistake in judgment by his senior partner Ravindra Jadeja. On Thursday, February 15, Sarfaraz Khan‘s incredible maiden innings came to an unfortunate end when he was run out in the late stages of the first day of the third Test match between India and England in Rajkot.

Sarfaraz Khan made one of the most spectacular debuts by an Indian cricketer, but his innings ended in a whimper after starting with a bang. With a 48-ball half-century, the equal second-fastest by an Indian on debut, Sarfaraz was conducting a blitzkrieg. Earlier in the day, he had finally fulfilled his dream of playing for India in front of his family.

Before his innings came to an abrupt end, he was batting on 62 off 66 balls. Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja posted a story on Instagram where he acknowledged that Sarfaraz got run out due to his bad call. The experienced all-round player is still undefeated at 110*, and India is in need of him continuing.

It’s okay such things happen- Sarfaraz Khan opens up on conversation with Ravindra Jadeja after Stumps

Batting at 99, Ravindra Jadeja tucked the ball to mid-on. He asked to go for a run, but he declined. When Sarfaraz saw that Jadeja had retreated, it was too late. He had committed to seeing the all-round player reach his hundred as much as his partner and the Indian team did. With a powerful direct hit, Mark Wood reached the ball, lifted it up, and smashed the stumps at the non-striker end.

However, Sarfaraz Khan told the media following the day’s play that he had already spoken with Jadeja following Stumps and that such incidents were common in cricket. He stated:

“After stumps He (Jadeja) told me that miscommunication happened from his end. However, I just said in return that it’s okay such things happen. Miscommunication happens, it’s just a part of the game. Run-outs happen in cricket. It’s completely normal,”

He told me to just spend time in the middle and things automatically will get easier – Sarfaraz Khan on partnership with Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan added a vital 77 runs for the fifth wicket before the unfortunate run-out. Sarfaraz gave Jadeja credit for staying in touch with him and making sure the right-hander’s nerves didn’t get the better of him. Regarding this, he said:

“During lunch time I had told Jaddu Bhai, ‘Jaddu Bhai, mere se baat karke khelna (please keep talking to me while batting).’ Talking while batting helps me and he really helped me in the middle,”

“Initially when you’re new, you do feel whether you belong to the level and you get nervous. I did get nervous when I missed a sweep shot right at the start. However, he (Jadeja) told me, ‘Just spend time in the middle. Things automatically will get easier.’ I followed that and runs kept flowing,” he further added.

The run-out of Sarfaraz Khan added a bitter-sweet touch to an altogether excellent day for Team India. From a vulnerable position at 33/3, centuries from Jadeja and Rohit Sharma (131) as well as a strong debut performance from Sarfaraz made sure that the hosts had 326/5 at the conclusion of play on Day 1.
