On Monday, April 22nd Kuldeep Yadav mentioned that instead of talking about his bowling, Rohit Sharma now forces him to improve his batting skills. The comment made by the Delhi Capitals (DC) bowler, Kuldeep Yadav surfaced throughout the media event of the team organized ahead of their match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday 2024.

Kuldeep Yadav has provided major break throughs for DC in the middle overs phase as he along with Axar Patel have made sure that they don’t concede a lot of boundaries. It won’t be wrong to say that ever since Kuldeep has worked closely with head coach Ricky Ponting, his game has improved as he is giving more air to the ball and bowling wicket to wicket.

Rohit Sharma has been impressed by my batting two- Kuldeep Yadav

Before this IPL season, Kuldeep was asked about the conversation he had with Rohit Sharma. To which the 29-year-old responded by saying:

“Before the IPL he only said, “Take it easy, don’t put too much effort’ (laughs). That was it!…. He doesn’t talk a lot about my bowling anymore. Whatever he wanted from my bowling, I am delivering that already. Now he’s nagging me for batting!”

Kuldeep then praised Rohit by offering his gratitude and mentioning how he helped Kuldeep to make his national comeback from an injury that he incurred a couple of years ago and supported him during his difficult phases. He further mentioned by saying:

“He used to speak a lot to me at nets about my batting during the England Tests. He’s been putting a lot of efforts behind it and has been very impressed by my batting too. Whatever he asked, I worked on those things and performed in important matches,” he added.

Kuldeep’s outstanding batting improvement was seen on England series where India had won four matches. While coming to bat at number five for once and number nine twice during his previous three innings, he documented scores of 27 (91), 28 (131) and 30 (69) and the second one where India were shortened to 117/7 chasing England’s target of 353 in Ranchi.

Kuldeep Yadav reveals India’s bowling tactics against England

The tricky spinner not only displayed his good batsmanship but also registered 19 wickets in his name in four matches at an average of 20.16.  He mentioned that his confidence has grown significantly over the past due to his regular presence in the game and the frequent opportunities made him more sharper and more aware of the game pattern. Further ahead of the interaction, he provided some captivating perceptions regarding India’s bowling and fielding tactics against England’s ‘Bazballers’.

“The plan was such… like, we play well in front of the wicket so the bowlers or captains keep two fielders behind on the straight boundaries. For them, we thought we needed to control the square boundaries. They didn’t have any game to play straight so we put two fielders behind square of the wicket, planned to allow them the singles and bowled the odd ball wide outside the crease. That was how I got Ben Duckett out because he was struggling against that. He was not even connecting the reverse sweeps,”
