Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a narrow defeat in their opening fixture against Punjab Kings (PBKS). DC’s impact player Abhishek Porel smashed a brilliant cameo of 32 runs in 10 balls and struck 4 fours and 2 sixes. Abhishek Porel now has made a strong case for himself as his knock somewhat gave DC a chance in the match.

DC’s skipper Rishabh Pant had a pretty good return to the competitive cricket as he scored 18 runs in 13 balls. The wicket-keeper batter was seen having banter behind the stumps just like the old times, we should not forget that he had a heart wrenching accident in December 2022 which ruled him out for almost 2 years.

DC’s fans would be dejected as the team couldn’t defend 174 runs against Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) batters who took calculative risks as the all-rounder Sam Curran played a fine knock of 63 runs in 47 balls and struck 6 fours and 1 six. PBKS had a good start in their new home venue Mullanpur, Mohali and now the franchise has to make the most of the winning start.

Abhishek Porel came in as an Impact player at No.9 and almost saved the franchise-  Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa was seen interacting with Jio Cinema. Robin Uthappa was quite furious on DC’s management and stated that why DC doesn’t back Indian players. Robin Uthappa pointed out that Abhishek Porel batting at no.9 position wasn’t a good move and said that he can be a great success at the top of the order.

“Why don’t you back the Indian players you have picked? I don’t understand why a franchise like DC doesn’t back Indian players. That’s my problem with DC, they never try out their Indian lads,” said Robin Uthappa.

“Looking at Porel’s technique, I think he can be a huge success at the top order. But how will you know if you don’t try him out? Why not bat him at No.3 or 4? He came in as an Impact Player at No.9 and almost saved the franchise,” he added.
