Axar Patel, a current player for the Delhi Capitals (DC), has expressed his disagreement with the Impact Sub Regulations. According to Axar Patel, it had some bearing on how well the all-rounders performed in the game. The Impact Sub-Rule, which states that a team may use their 12th man when necessary, is carried over from the previous IPL 2023 edition. It also has some positive effects in that using it will help manage the workload and show concern for injuries.

One of the best all-rounders for the Delhi Capitals (DC), Axar Patel is not only able to produce big-time runs when he bats and bowls, but he is also very economical this season. He has played in all eight games and has nearly 168 deliveries, giving up 198 runs with an economy of 6.82, which is currently far better than previous seasons. Despite not spilling many runs, he also becomes useful and helps the team believe in him. His ability to perform with his arm became crucial to team success.

This IPL season, the Impact Sub-Rule is also causing concern. While Axar Patel has not been the only player to voice concerns, players such as Mohammed Siraj of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have maintained their positions and filed a negative motion against the rule, arguing that the bowlers have put in the most effort on the field and that new batsmen are hitting them after they have finished their work. Not only does he share this viewpoint, but so does another DC fast bowler, Mukesh Kumar, who expresses the same concern.

Axar Patel Is Dissatisfied With The Impact Sub Rule

It is evident from Axar Patel’s statement that the game is entirely dominated by the batsmen and that the batsman’s only choice is where to take the game. Although this can make things difficult for the players, these challenges also present new opportunities.

Axar Patel proceeded to say that because of this effect, the subrule allows for the extra man to be used. In contrast, if a batsman is performing poorly, the team will consider calling in an extra batsman rather than the bowler who comes next. He has observed this for the past two years. In a similar vein, the game is moving too quickly because no one takes their time and starts smashing balls from the first ball. For this reason, the team must play batters until numbers seven and eight.

“Whoever is making the rules is thinking that only batting will decide where the game would go (smiles). It has obviously become very difficult for bowlers. But the way I see it is, there’s pressure but there’s also opportunity to do well in such situations and using your skills,”

“Because of the Impact Player rule, there’s an extra player. Teams think that if the batting doesn’t do well, they can get an extra batter and if it does well, they’ll get an extra bowler. So, whoever comes in starts hitting from the first ball. I am seeing this from the last two years that no one likes to take time because they know they can have batters till number seven or eight,”
