Phil Salt is confused and scratching his head at the snub from the IPL franchisees in the just concluded auction. One wonders what more he has to do to prove himself. You got to feel for Phil Salt. Just look at his recent performances.

In the ongoing England vs West Indies T20 series, Phil Salt has hammered two centuries in a five-match series. His 119 in just 57 balls paved the way for an emphatic win. It is said that cricket has a short memory, and a player is only as good as the last performance.

Phil Salt’s remaining unsold defies cricketing logic. He has an excellent record in T20

It doesn’t seem to apply to Phil Salt. His record in IPL 2023 was excellent. One has to wonder why Delhi capitals chose not to retain him. He had scored 217 runs in nine matches at a healthy strike rate of 169. When you look at DC’s dismal performance last year, one wonders why the axe fell on him.

It seems he has been made a convenient scapegoat. How else do you explain the logic of this snub?

He has an excellent record for a T20 specialist who plies his trade worldwide. In 206 innings, he has scored 4845 runs at a strike rate of 151 and an average of 25. His stats speak for themselves. He is a selfless player who goes all out to score maximum runs for his team.

His record with the England T20 team is exceptional. In 19 innings, he has scored 601 runs at an average of 35. At 27, he is at the peak of his form. He has experience playing in almost all the T20 leagues in the world. Let us hope he gets an opportunity as a wild card or replacement in IPL 2024.
