IPL 2023: “The World Won’t End If He Doesn’t Play Seven Games”- Aakash Chopra Says MI Should Listen To BCCI Over Playing Jasprit Bumrah

It was back in July 2022 that Jasprit Bumrah last played in an International game, since then constantly in and out of the squad due to his back issues, and the star bowler has finally received clearance from the NCA ahead of the IPL.

However, the BCCI would want to make sure that Bumrah in the IPL doesn’t cause his back issue to worsen as this year also features the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup.

“If BCCI steps in because he is a national treasure”- Aakash Chopra

Speaking on the same, Former Indian batter Chopra was seen speaking on his You-Tube channel & believes that if the BCCI requests that Bumrah take a break for a few games, MI will have to abide by keeping Jasprit Bumrah’s national duties in mind.

“You’re an Indian player first and then you play for your franchise. So if Jasprit Bumrah feels any discomfort, the BCCI will step in and tell the franchise that we are not going to release him. The world won’t end if he doesn’t play seven games with Jofra Archer.” said Aakash Chopra.

“At the same time, when you’re fit, you want to keep on playing as that only makes you better. So I define will pay heed to it if BCCI steps in because he is a national treasure and things aren’t as difficult to manage as they seem to be at the moment,” he added.

National duties over Franchise

Jasprit Bumrah after recovering from the long long-standing was all set to return for the ODI series against Sri Lanka in Guwahati earlier this month but the BCCI withdrew him on the eve of the ODI series, citing the need to develop bowling resilience as a precautionary measure.

Now with the news of the 29-year-old ready to play for his side Mumbai Indians in the upcoming IPL, the fans and, pundits have come out raging highlighting BCCI’s habit of prioritizing the IPL. However as  per the 2019 Netflix Documentary, ‘Cricket Fever’ MI who are known for their policy of letting the players play despite injuries will have to be cautious this time given that the BCCI decides to show the same kind of concern over the next few months of franchise cricket.
