Ravichandran Ashwin, the maestro of spin bowling, has yet again added another fifer to his tally on day one itself. Ravichandran Ashwin registered incredible figures as the spinner took 5 wickets in his 24.3  overs and conceded only 60 runs and helped India bundle out West Indies for 150 in 64.3 overs.

In a one-sided contest between the West Indies and India, India was the clear favorite even before the eve of the test match and proved why they were considered favorites. The West Indies were never in the contest as India dominated all the sessions of Day 1 with a lot of ease.

Top Performer Of The Day

The sly spinner Ravichandran Ashwin drew first blood by making Tagenarine Chanderpaul his first victim of the day. Notably, Ravichandran Ashwin became the first Indian and fifth overall bowler to dismiss both the father and son in Test cricket. Ravichandran Ashwin also took the vital wicket of West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite.

Ravichandran Ashwin claimed his 700th wicket in international cricket by getting the third wicket of Alzarri Joseph. Additionally, by taking the last wicket of Jomel Warrican, Ash picked up his 33rd five-wicket haul in Test cricket. The highlight of his bowling has been the way he is skillfully mixing up his pace throughout the innings.

If you’re going to prepare a spinning track, you have to be ready for the spin-web challenges posed by Sir Ravindra Jadeja. He won’t let you play on your own terms. He has the best economy rate of 1.9 compared to others and has also taken three wickets, including Jermaine Blackwood, Joshua Da Saliva, and Kemar Roach.

Benefit To The Visitors

After the magical bowling performance of the Spin duo, West Indies got bundled out for a mere score of 150. Although West Indies won the toss earlier in the day, they couldn’t capitalize on it as India Cruising near to victory, smelling the all-important 12 WTC points.

West Indies failed to put up any fight from their side and played half-witted cricketing shots throughout their innings. Not a single batsman took responsibility to occupy the crease for long and rescue West Indies from a dire situation.

Following the dismissal of the West Indies at a low score, India batted for almost 2 hours, and as predicted, they made an excellent start with the bat too. Yashasvi Jaiswal received his debut cap from his co-opener, Rohit Sharma, and it’s safe to say that he lived up to the belief and expectations of his fans.
Although Jaiswal took 15 balls to get off the mark, Rohit Sharma punished every bad ball he received right from the start of the innings, providing a steady and secure start to his team. Once Jaiswal found his rhythm, he didn’t look back, and he ended the day not out on 40, with Rohit Sharma on 30 as India’s score was 80 in 23 overs.

What’s likely to happen

India is currently ruling this test match, and the overnight score stands at 80 without the loss of any wicket. India is still 70 runs behind, but they have a deep and long batting lineup and would be aiming to get first inning lead in excess of 200.

The best goal India must be aiming for from here is to score at least 350 runs on this extra turner and bouncy pitch and invite the hosts to come and play to save this test match for themselves. However, it is very likely that India is eyeing a win by an innings from day 1 itself, so it’s necessary for the Indian batsmen to score some big runs on a crease located near Caribbean Waters.
