Joe Root, the experienced England batsman, highlighted that one significant change brought about by the ‘Bazball’ ideology in their Test team was the candid manner in which they approached their team talks. Joe Root mentioned that England has moved away from traditional professional meetings, replacing them with more casual conversations during meal times or coffee breaks when the players gather together.

We don’t have to sit in a meeting room- Joe Root

In an interview with Jio Cinema, Joe Root shared his thoughts on the Bazball culture and its impact on the team dynamics and approach.

We don’t really do team meetings anymore. We don’t have to sit in a meeting room and I think it’s more authentic and more genuine when you can have it around a dinner table. Having a coffee in the morning or whatever, I think that’s when you do your best learning.”

Root highlighted the importance of spending quality time together, which fosters open and honest conversations among the players when necessary.

It’s what brings the best out of us– Joe Root

England achieved a remarkable victory over India in Hyderabad, but they couldn’t replicate the success in Visakhapatnam as the hosts leveled the Test series with a convincing 106-run win.

Joe Root reminisced about England’s one-off Test against India in 2022 at Edgbaston, where they successfully chased down a target of 378 with their Bazball approach. He emphasized that regardless of the outcome, England will persist with the same style of play. He said,

“It’s what’s given us success for a good period of time now. It’s what brings the best out of us. We’ve been in similar situations before. The last time we played India in England, in that one-off Test, we were miles behind in the game and we managed to chase that score down. There have been numerous other occasions where we’ve done things that we never thought we could have done before,”

Joe Root’s performance in the Test series has been underwhelming, managing just 52 runs across four innings. His dismissal due to a wild slog against Ravichandran Ashwin in Visakhapatnam has drawn criticism from cricket pundits. It remains to be seen how the former England captain responds and bounces back in the upcoming matches.
