England fans would be crestfallen after the team’s below par performance in the recently concluded Test series against India where they lost 4 Test matches on the bounce after winning the opening Test match. James Anderson, the veteran pacer attained a massive milestone by picking up his 700th Test wicket. James Anderson though was taken to the cleaners despite taking 10 scalps in the series.

Head coach Brendon McCullum & skipper Ben Stokes will have to perhaps change their ultra-attacking approach after the beating which they got by Indian batters. The side badly missed the services of the left arm off-spinner Jack Leach who was injured after the 1st Test match. ECB needs to give a long rope to the spinners rather than frequently changing & chopping.

I want to make sure that I am playing well and earn my place in the team- James Anderson

James Anderson was having an interaction with Tailenders’ podcast. James Anderson made it clear that he wants to continue playing for England in the red ball format and said that he is in the best shape he ever has been. James Anderson was aware of the fact that he needs to work hard to prove that he is worth a place in the summer.

“I’m really excited for the summer. I want to make sure I’m playing well and earn my place in the team. I’m not getting any worse. I’m definitely in the best shape I’ve ever been in. I like where my game is at and I still have that enjoyment of turning up every day and trying to get better in the nets. My place in the team is not a given so I’ve got to work hard to prove I’m worth a place in the summer,” said James Anderson.

“I’ve been on tours to India before where little cracks start appearing in the team and that’s not happened this time. We’ve stuck together really well, we really enjoy being together as a group and there is more to come from this team,” he added.

Exciting Summer for England

The Ben Stokes’ led side would be aware of the fact that they can’t take West Indies lightly who are slated to play in July 2024 for a 3 Test Match series and then Sri Lanka is all set to play 3 Test match series in August 2024. England’s ultra-attacking approach ‘Bazball’ may have been successful but they are placed at 8th position on the ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2023-25) cycle with a percentile of 17.5.

The Men in Maroon have a slight surprise element in them; we all witnessed how Kraigg Brathwaite’s side won the 2nd Test match against Australia all the odds. West Indies may be mercurial in their nature but they have got the seasoned campaigners in the form of Jason Holder & Kemar Roach who know how to win crunch phases of the Test match.
