The 1st Test Match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy ended with the visitors losing to India by an inning and 132 runs. While Jadeja started the Aussie’s struggle with his fifer, skipper Rohit Sharma led the batting department from the front with a century. He was well supported by the lower middle-order contributions from Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Mohammad Shami.

Eventually, when it was  Ravichandran Ashwin’s turn, he worked his magic to reach his 31st Test fifer in just 10 overs and sent Australia reeling. All in all, it was only the toss ahead of the match that went in Australia’s favor.

Michael Vaughan on Australia

Following the Aussies’ disappointing loss, former English star Michael Vaughan took to his social media, making bold comments about the side and India’s dominating stance.

“No surprise at all that the Aussies got hammered in those conditions. Most teams get the same treatment against such a good team. Ashwin and Jadeja are as hard a combination to face as any in their home conditions. See no way back for the Aussies “ said Vaughan.

Concerns for Australia

It all started when Siraj, hit the pads of Usman Khawaja, getting him LBW on his first ball of the game on day 1 and since then things only went down for the Kangaroos, a below-par batting show managing only 177 and 91 runs in the two innings, whereas India comfortably put up 400 runs.

The bowling unit looked as bewildered and helpless, waiting for the Indian batters to make a mistake. The only positive from their side was their debutant Todd Murphy who managed a fifer. The lack of intensity was visible as the Pat Cummins side kept dropping chances in the fielding department as well.

India has taken an early 1-0 lead into the series while the Australians have plenty of answers to find before both teams meet for the second test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on February 17.
