Iyer’s ton made his contend for World Cup 2023 very strong. Agarkar-led selection committee now is in a dilemma to choose between Iyer who had been considered in the World Cup scene for the last two years and Ishan Kishan who is the only left-hander batter in the squad excepting all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.

He returned to play in the group match against Pakistan but encountered another setback when he couldn’t participate in the Super 4 round matches and the final due to experiencing back spasms.

Shreyas Iyer spoke about how hard his comeback was both physically and mentally during the post-match press conference.

“Yeah, it was a rollercoaster ride. I would like to thank myself, to be honest, for believing, then, in my abilities and also my mindset. I was feeling a bit lonely at that point of time, but thanks to my physios, my trainers and my family, to back me at that point of time, and I’m grateful to have them around,” he said.
