ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Pakistan took an early exit from the tournament after two shameful losses against the USA and India. Babar Azam and Co. need to think and plan new strategies so that they can start fresh. Babar Azam was appointed as captain for the second time as he had resigned from the captaincy after the disastrous campaign of World Cup 2023. Shaheen Shah Afridi was appointed as captain but then soon he resigned as captain.
Virender Sehwag criticizes Wahab Riaz
Former Pakistan bowler Wahab Riaz is now Pakistan’s chief selector and so he is being criticized by former Indian batter Virender Sehwag for selecting Mohammed Amir in the T20 World Cup 2024, as Mohammed Amir was excluded by the board since 2020 and has not played any single game and so he took retirement but later before commencing the T20 World Cup Wahab Riaz add Mohammed Amir to the squad and so he was the part of England series and later he also joined the 15 men squad of T20 World Cup.
This is completely biased Amir is a senior player and also he took retirement but just for the sake of his image and reputation Wahab Riaz did some favoritism and added Amir to the squad, it’s completely absurd and pathetic. England also did with Moeen Ali as he declared his retirement from test format but the board insisted on him and forced him to take back his retirement ahead of the Ashes. So, such kind of behavior is not tolerable and any retired player can be added to the squad such a biased nature is not acceptable in sports some respect should be there for their decision, or else in the future, it will keep continuing. While criticizing Virender Sehwag said:
“Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir, these are two names who criticized the Pakistan team on the same TV channel, giving their comments…Today, one of them is a selector (Riaz) and one is in the playing eleven (Amir). So the same persons who were criticizing, if today they have power, became the selector, what have they done first up? ‘Mohammad Amir was with me, let’s select him’, said Sehwag.
“It’s like if Ajit Agarkar is chairman (of BCCI selection committee) today, he will say ‘Come to Viru, come Zak (Zahir Khan)’, I will facilitate your comeback’.
Further Virender Sehwag also advised that respect your job and position being a chief selector such things don’t suit anyone and favors should be stopped or else this will end the career of youngsters in cricket and maybe the future of cricket will be in dark. Virender Sehwag said:
“You [ Wahab Riaz] have become a selector, you have to look at the future. You have a job, make the right use of it, don’t do favors. That hard step selectors will have to take,” said Sehwag on the same Cricbuzz show.
