Former England captain Michael Vaughan has expressed doubts about the depth and quality of players pool of Pakistan due to their T20 World Cup struggles. His comments come on the heels of PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi’s statement that Pakistan cricket needs a major overhaul implying that significant changes to the squad are necessary.

Vaughan believes Gary Kirsten, Pakistan’s white-ball coach, is the right man to handle the transition. However, he has his doubts about
whether the Men in Green have an abundance of quality players outside the fifteen that they took to the T20 World Cup.

Vaughan trusts the white-ball coach of team Pakistan Gary Kirsten with this transition. But he doubts the Men in Green are abundant of any quality players rather than the fifteen selected for the T20 World Cup.

What Michael Vaughan Said

Speaking on Cricbuzz on this matter Vaughan shared his thoughts by saying,

“I think Gary Kirsten will bring some young players to build the culture around that squad. He will be looking at Pakistan and thinking is there a huge amount of strength and depth? I don’t think there is. I don’t think there are many players out of the squad that are crying to be in the squad.”

Vaughan also shared his thoughts on the power PCB chairman has and how Gary Kirsten needs to take charge of major decisions.

Michael Vaughan on the Power of Pakistan

Michael Vaughan praised the bowling attack that Pakistan has but also raised concerns about the lack of power hitters in their batting line up for modern T20 format.

According to him from the current team only Fakhar Zaman can hit big shots.

He added,

“I just don’t think they’re a great team. I am not being disrespectful. But the way Pakistan play their T20 cricket, I just don’t think they have enough power. They have got some half-decent seam bowlers. They lack a world-class spinner which is unheard of in Pakistan. Four quality seamers but if you look at the batting, how many of them are destructive powerful players?”

Pakistan could not make their way to the Super 8s after loss against USA and India. What steps are taken by PCB to secure the team in the short format is something to look out for.
