Shrewd ex England player Nasser Hussain has warned the English cricket squad to wake up from their slumber because the current ailing English team looks unlikely to qualify for the super eight in this current twenty/ twenty world cup. After both being classified in Group B with arch-enemies, the Australian team is the only English team that is yet to register a victory in the tournament. Two of their games are still read, but the opening match against Scotland was rained out in Barbados.. In the following game England played Australia and lost by a margin of 36 runs. England would need to secure victories in the last two league games and by big margins if they are to qualify for the next Super 8 round.
England’s T20 World Cup Hopes Hang in the Balance
Hussain Nasser, a renowned cricketer, opines that Jos Buttler and Matthew Mott are under enormous pressure before the games. Hussain in his article of the Daily Mail pointed to England’s dismal performance in the recently held ODI World Cup where England was featuring as the defending champions. England was poor enough to win only three games in the tournament and was banned from the league stage.
“Make no mistake: Buttler and head coach Matthew Mott are vulnerable. You can absorb one poor World Cup, especially when you began as double world champions, but two letdowns would be trickier to explain away. It’s up to England to show what a good side they are,” the cricketer-turned-pundit wrote on Daily Mail.
Conditions Over Conformity: Nasser Hussain’s Unconventional Approach to T20 World Cup Selection
Our former skipper, Nasser Hussain also conveyed some opinion regarding the selection of squads. He added that the conditions should be used to decide the playing eleven in the T20 World Cup matches that will be played in the future instead of the going with the set team.
“With their struggles at the 50-over World Cup in India fresh in the memory, I can see why the fans aren’t happy. But they must now avoid the mistake they made in India, and stop chasing their tails. Pick the best team for the conditions in front of you, not the one you should have picked for the game before,” the 56-year-old wrote in his column.
