England cricket team looks all set to defend the title as the core of the unit is quite similar to the 2019 ODI WC. Jonny Bairstow‘s attacking gameplan can destroy the opponent on the given day. The peculiarity of England is that they don’t panic even if they lose couple of wickets upfront but in the absence of Jason Roy (*dropped) Jonny Bairstow will have to bat responsibly.
Head coach Matt Potts & management will have to be smart with the batting positions of the players like they should not promote Moeen Ali up the order or make Ben Stokes play as a finisher which won’t keep the team in good stead.
Jonny Bairstow has been consistent for us at the top of the order- Joe Root
Joe Root was having an interaction with ICC. Joe Root was impressed with the way Jonny Bairstow has been performing for England since last 8 years. Joe Root mentioned that picking the variations of Rashid Khan is quite tough and Root was quite optimistic that Adil Rashid would excel in Indian conditions.
“I am going to go for Jonny Bairstow (to be the leading run-scorer). He is someone that always has a point to prove, he is a wonderful white-ball player and he has been so consistent for us at the top of the order,” said Joe Root.
“He (Rashid) has so many different skills and variations to call upon. We know how important it is to take wickets in the middle overs…he has done a wonderful job for us for a long time and I anticipate him being very difficult on these wickets,” he added.
Great chance for England
England cricket team are without the former skipper Eoin Morgan (*retired) but under the leadership of Jos Buttler, the side has done a pretty good job as England’s recent triumph against New Zealand have made them a dangerous team.
ECB though have taken a bold step by dropping Jason Roy from the ODI WC 2023 squad. In his absence, the rising sensation Harry Brook has been named in the squad. Harry Brook’s inclusion means that England can play fearless brand of cricket given their batting depth.
