ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: “I Was Only Focusing On What’s Coming In That Moment”- Heinrich Klaasen Reflects On His Stupendous Knock Of 174 Runs

South African cricket team would be over the moon after winning the ODI series against  Australia against all odds. Heinrich Klassen played a key role as his brutal knock of 174 runs in 83 in 4th ODI gave Proteas the self-belief that they can beat a champion Australian side. Heinrich Klaasen made a statement that they aren’t just taking part in the game but want to dictate the terms.

Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma marshaled his troops smartly as his attacking tactics put the star-studded Australian batting lineup under pressure. The rising left-arm pacer Marco Jansen’s all-round performance in the 5th ODI was quite commendable as the all-rounder is tipped to be the next Shaun Pollock of South Africa.

Heinrich Klaasen was having an interaction with ESPNcricinfo . Heinrich Klaasen pointed out that his knock of 174 runs was quite special. Heinrich Klaasen said that he is playing every ball as it is. Klaasen said that Australia’s brutal hitter Tim David asked how many sixes, he had hit and Klaasen replied I didn’t know.

“It was special and a lot to take in. I will go tonight and watch a bit of the highlights. Having a family has changed things for me. The little one doesn’t care what I’ve done tonight. I saw she’s awake already, so it might be a long night. What’s changed in my career is that I am playing every ball as it is and for me to stay in that mindset,” said Heinrich Klaasen.

“I don’t recap what I have done the previous ball or think of what I might do the next ball. Tim David asked me how many sixes I hit, and I said I didn’t know. It shows my mindset was good, and I was only focusing on what’s coming in that moment,” he added.

Heinrich Klaasen stated that how he improved his game and revealed the technique behind his rise in the ODI format in the last 3-4 months . Klaasen pointed out that it required a lot of hard work for him to get back to his best.

“I am batting within myself at the start to make sure I get a good platform and then I can just react to every ball: stand still, watch the ball and wherever I need to hit it, my body will take over and just react,” said Heinrich Klaasen.

“It took me a couple of months to get back to my best and a lot of hard work. I am not a guy who hits a lot of balls at training, but I needed to do it. I needed to invest in my batting again,” he added.
