South Africa’s batting stalwart Faf du Plessis would be hoping that he makes it to the ODI WC 2023 squad. Faf du Plessis hasn’t played any significant ODI cricket ever since the 2019 ODI WC. The Proteas will need a helluva of effort to make a case for themselves in ODI WC 2023.

South Africa would be keen for a better performance in the ODI Series against Australia after getting thrashed in the T20I Series. South Africa lost the series by 3-0 as the fielding was quite sloppy and at the same time there was hardly any intent shown by the hosts in the high voltage series.

South Africa’s white ball team is in a strong place- Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis was having an interaction with ICC and made a huge statement that the Proteas have got a good side ahead of the marquee ODI WC 2023. Faf pointed out that it would be quite tough for the other nations to beat India  at their back yard. Faf stated that Aussies can’t be written off as they are quite successful in ICC events.

“I think South Africa has got a really good side. It will be hard to get past a team like India in home conditions. The other team you can never write off is Australia, with them being so successful in ICC events, South Africa’s white-ball team is in a strong place. They’ve got some real experience going into that World Cup,” said Faf du Plessis.

With 50 over cricket, you can get that wear & tear and the spinners really come into their own- Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis pointed out that the challenge for the overseas teams would be the wear & tear of the surface and at the same time stated that the teams can really get good pitches. Faf said that spinners are more into the action due to the nature of the surfaces.

“The challenge for all teams that are not from the subcontinent is obviously always the challenge of going to the subcontinent. Especially 50-over cricket,” said Faf du Plessis.

“I find with T20 cricket, the surfaces are a bit more even, And you get some really good pitches. With 50-over cricket, you can get that wear and tear and the spinners really come into their own,” he added.
