England skipper Jos Buttler would be keen to dominate the terms when they lock horns against New Zealand in the opening match of ODI WC 2023 on 5th October. It won’t be wrong to say that Jos Buttler hasn’t been able to dictate and play a fearless brand of cricket ever since he was appointed as the skipper after the sudden retirement of Eoin Morgan in 2021.
England fans would be delighted after hearing the news that Jofra Archer would travel to India for ODI WC 2023, but he would be with the squad as a travel reserve. Archer played a key role for England in ODI WC 2019. ECB will be hoping that the side clicks at the perfect time as England doesn’t have a promising record in ODIs since the 2019 ODI WC.

Jos Buttler was having an interaction with England’s official kit supplier Castore. Jos Buttler pointed out that leading the side is not an easy task by any means in modern cricket. Jos Buttler spoke about the exclusion of Jason Roy from the ICC ODI WC 2023 squad.
“I don’t think any time is easy. It’s part of the job as captain that is not enjoyable, whether they’re great friends or not, it’s not a nice job to do. It’s my responsibility to give that news. He’s a really great mate of mine so it was a really tough call to make,” said Jos Buttler.
“Jason will be the top-order reserve, absolutely. Harry, we do feel gives us versatility – he can cover one to six in the batting order which is obviously something that’s advantageous in a squad. But good players miss out, it’s the very brutal nature of sport.” he added.
Dangerous batting line up
It won’t be a surprise if England’s management promote Liam Livingstone up the order. Livingstone can play a breezy knock of 70 odd runs and can change the complexion of the match. Livingstone can also roll his arm and recently his spin bowling has improved.
Ben Stokes’ inclusion for ODI WC 2023 can do wonders for the team. Stokes is someone who can not only contribute in all the 3 facets of the game but can help Jos Buttler to make tough decisions on the field. The flamboyant all-rounder was seen striking the ball cleanly against New Zealand in the recently concluded ODI series which England won by 3-1.
